Granite City , IL Report

10/14/2010- DAY 23

The abortion mill was closed today. In our 40 Days intention we pray for the strength to love those who do not love us. How many drive-bys do we hear daily of vulgarities being hurled at our peaceful presence? Too many, but we count them all as blessings as we are cursed for righteousness’ sake. In our scripture reading Jonah 4:10-11, the Lord said, “You have pity on the plant you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in the night and perished in the night. Should I not pity Nineveh , the great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousands persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left, and much livestock? Should I not be concerned about this great city?”

In our culture, our priorities are askew. We worry more about the welfare of animals more than we do babies. We value material things more than human beings. We love our cars more than a beggar on the side of the road. In the book of Jonah God tells us that He loves even the most sinful of people and seeks to bring them into His Kingdom and into His merciful arms. In our 40 Days prayer we pray: “God, loving our enemies seems like one of the most difficult things You could ask of us. Remind us that this is how You love, and that if You ask of us then You will give us the grace to do it. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
