Granite City , IL Report

4/5/2011- DAY 28

Midnight abortions were underway. Only a couple of cars were on the lot as we arrived. Judy was already standing in the gap. She had secured a parking spot in front of the slaughterhouse, but a pickup truck was illegally parked in front of her and the space was not quite big enough for us to angle the ultrasound van in between the vehicles. We had to park a block away from the mill and point to the van as the abortion-minded mothers began walking up to the building.

A large pro-life group arrived with a great group of teens for life. I love these prayer warriors; they have holy hitzpah as they lovingly speak to the women. We handed out signs and began in prayer. Our 40 Days for Life intention asks us to pray that those standing in a peaceful vigil will extend mercy and grace to others as they remember that Christ did not treat us as our sins deserve. Scripture says to love your enemies, bless those that curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use and persecute you, Matthew 5:43-44.

On this warm and sunny day we were living this scripture out as the mothers and their accomplices were very hostile towards any of our efforts. It is so emotionally charged when you witness these very late-term mothers walking up to the entrance of the mill. “Why do they wait so long to kill their babies?” one might ask. We realize it’s wrong at any stage of pregnancy, but when they are weeks away from delivery it’s disgusting. For some of our prayer warriors it was their first time. One mother yelled back at us not to talk to her, “I already got the shot. Just shut up!” She was late-term, and she indicated that they already started the late-term abortion by attempting to stop the large baby’s heart with a drug called digoxin. The abortionist is supposed to inject the needle straight into the baby’s heart to stop it from beating as it is easier to dismember a late-term baby if it’s not moving, as relayed so coldly to us. It’s as if they have no heart, just hardened.

Another couple called us crazy for being there and praying. Another nice looking couple flipped the prayer warriors off as they went inside. A couple of girls from Oklahoma, rather goth looking, cursed us and then flipped us off when we offered to help them with another option such as adoption. Rebels, they acted like rebels. Of course, none of them wanted to hear the truth.

We called the local police to let them know of the numerous cars illegally parked; they drove by and smarted off to Daniel. The officer rolled his window down, told us he was on his way to another situation, and after he had his lunch he would come back by. He was laughing as he and his partner pulled away. Now, if that were the ultrasound van parked 2 inches in the yellow we would be threatened to be towed and receive another $795.00 parking ticket. “Where’s the love?” one would ask, but when you expose and stand for the truth, you will be persecuted as scripture says. The police returned a while later, went inside the hospital, and a few minutes later came out with keys in hand. One officer got inside the pickup truck illegally parked and pulled it away into another parking lot. “Now the local police are working valet service for the hospital employees,” I surmised. Oh, there’s no bias in Granite City . Really? Can you say collaborator? Praise God, we were able to carefully wedge the ultrasound van in between the vehicles and another option would be visible to the abortion-minded mothers.

Judy suggested we pray harder. She was right; I went to the group of teens on the west side and BAM a young girl we spoke to earlier came back out. She looked at me and smiled. We confirmed that she saved her baby, and the teens watched her walk to her car behind the slaughterhouse .We gathered on the front sidewalk and continued praying. Fr Chris joined us.

Because of God’s mercy and grace, we who receive Him receive eternal hope. Those who curse us, hate us, and spitefully mistreat and persecute us need the same hope. That is the only way we can expect them to behave differently. We asked the Holy Spirit to love them and convict them so that they are drawn to the real HOPE that is in Jesus Christ.

The kids had assembled baby gift bags for our ministry to give out to the mothers who choose life. They put so much work into them and they are full of baby gifts and supplies. We were presented with a generous donation also. We had a closing prayer and the group began gathering their belongings for the drive back home. They hugged and thanked us and told us how much they appreciate our ministry. We were so grateful for their dedication to the unborn and their faithfulness. We felt very blessed to be able to witness and fellowship with them this day.

As soon as they left, BAM! another baby saved. All four came back out, and they stopped at the driveway to roll the window down and confirm. They accepted our literature and thanked us for being there. Praise God!

“Heavenly Father, may we reflect Your character of grace and kindness to those who hate us and persecute us and curse us. Guard our hearts and tongues as we respond in love to words and actions meant to rile us or cause us harm. Let others see the hope that is Christ in all we say and do. In Jesus’ precious name we pray.” ~Angela
