Granite City , IL Report

Our 40 Days for Life intention tells us that God will bless us with His gift of strength as we respond in obedience to His call.

Many, many times when we speak we tell our audiences that years ago God woke us up from our slumber with the cries of babies and directed our eyes to the scripture: “Rescue those being led to their slaughter; hold back those being drawn to their deaths.” Proverbs 24:11-12 became our marching orders. These scriptures are not a suggestion from God but His orders to His church. “If you say, ‘Surely we did not know this,’ does not He who weights the heart consider it? He who keeps your soul, does not He know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?” And there are 73 churches in Granite City and over 2400 in St. Louis , Missouri .

There is just no excuse for God’s people not to answer the call. We send missionaries across the world to third world countries to win them to Jesus; we help build houses in Mexico; we feed the poor in Africa; we acknowledge the human rights abuses, the persecuted Christians in China, the genocide in Darfur; we fight the whale hunters in the Bering Sea…when right here in our own backyard we have families and little baby boys and girls being destroyed and devastated by abortion.                                          It’s very noble to march off to Washington D.C. every year for Life and remind our legislators that abortion kills children, but women and children are not being decimated at the White House; they are being exploited and aborted right here in our own communities. There is a great injustice to be fought and won right here. We have a mission field; we just need the missionaries. When we are obedient to His calling, He will equip us. Our faith will increase as we see God at work. Let your efforts be for His pleasure and His purposes. Pray without ceasing. You don’t have to fly off to other countries to save lives; you can do it right here.

In a constant drizzle and cold we pleaded with the abortion-bound mothers to come inside the ultrasound van to see a free picture of their unborn babies. On Saturdays we have the deathscorts who try and divert anyone from our van and other alternatives than abortion. They were out in force this day. Many mothers appreciated our efforts to try and talk them out of it; many were hardened. The Bound for Life group arrived and stood with their signature tape across their mouths as they stood and quietly prayed.

It was disheartening to view many cars including the young teens from Mississippi who were back for Day 2 of their late-term abortion. A mother and daughter from Granite City came and joined us this day and silently prayed. The daughter had tears in her eyes as she witnessed so many abortion-bound mothers effortlessly walking inside to kill their children.

But then God began blessing prayers and our efforts with fruit. A couple from Illinois came inside our van where they viewed an approx 6 week old baby on the ultrasound screen. We went over resources and physician follow-up instructions with them, and then walked them to their car. We also had a couple from Missouri confirm they were keeping their baby and drive off the lot. Praise God! A little while later, a mother and daughter from Illinois came back out and also confirmed they did not abort their baby. Thank you Jesus! It does make a difference to be prayerfully standing outside abortion mills.

There is a civil rights movement happening. We are the generation who has fought and stood against the inhumane treatment and injustice suffered by those weakest and without a voice in our society. We must continue to be that voice. Even in prayerful silence our voices speak volumes. The father of the civil rights movement, the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., said, “If you will protest courageously, and yet with dignity and with Christian love, when the history books are written in future generations, the historians will have to pause and say, ‘There lived a great people.’”

Let our prayer be: “We pray for continued guidance and strength as we intercede on behalf of the young women and their babies who are stumbling to their slaughter. Open the eyes of the mother’s heart to see her child as You do: a precious gift to be treasured. Let her feel Your loving arms around her. May she feel assured that You have a plan and a future for her and her child. Give her wisdom and discernment to hear of the life options through our Special Forces and ultrasound ministry, and may she choose life for her baby. In Jesus’ Name we pray.
